A. M. Rathnam Biography 
A. M. Rathnam is a film producer who works in Telugu and Tamil cinema. He is known for many big budget films and has also given numerous blockbusters to the industry. He owns a movie production house, Sri Surya Movies Entertainment, Hyderabad and a few of his earlier Telugu blockbusters are Karthavyam (1991), Peddarikam (1992) and Sneham Kosam (1999). In the middle 1990’s he entered Tamil film industry with the most expensive Tamil film made till then – Indian (1996) with Kamal Hassan in the main lead. The film budget of 15 crore was one of the most expensive projects in south Indian cinema till then. The movie was later dubbed to several languages including Hindi titled – Hindustani. Kushi, Run, Boys, Enakku 20 Unakku 18, Dhool, Ghilli and 7G Rainbow Colony are his top hit Tamil movies.
Rathnam was born in Buchi Reddy Palem of Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh. His sons, Jyothi Krishna and Ravi Krishna are successful actors of Telugu cinema at present. Rathnam financed his son Jyothi Krishna’s debut film as a director, Enakku 20 Unakku 18 which was a commercial hit at box office. Ravi Krishna was also launched to entertainment industry by his father and produced his first four movies. Jyothi Krishna's second directorial Kedi was also produced by Ratnam. His production house is noted for several high-profile and big budget films with top actors as the main cast.
Ratnam started his career as a makeup man for top actress of 1980’s Vijayashanti. Later he entered into the production field with Karthavyam, his first movie. Vijayashanti played the lead role for which she won National award for best actress. He has won Filmfare south for two Tamil movies (For best film) - Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000) and Indian (1996). Indian was India’s official entry to Academy awards and it gave Kamal Hassan a National award too. Arrambam is his latest movie as a film producer.
