What's Sachin Tendulkar Missing From His Record Books?

Sachin Tendulkar might have virtually every batting record to his credit. He has played the most number of Tests and ODI (One Day International) matches, has scored the most runs in Test and ODIs and also has the most number of centuries to his credit in both formats of the game.

However, the God is made to look a human when we stumble upon some records that always evaded the batting maestro. Let us have a look at what Sachin missed as a batting genius.

Tendulkar does not have a triple century in first class cricket. His highest score in Test cricket though is 248 unbeaten runs. Though Sachin has 100 centuries to his credit, there is Jack Hobbs who has a whopping 199 first-class centuries against his name and he also holds the record for the most first-class runs – 61,760.

However, the highest score in first-class is scored by another legendary cricket – Brian Lara, with 501 not out runs. He also holds the record for the most runs in a single Test innings. Once again he has remained not out on 400 runs.

The don of cricket, Don Bradman has the highest Test average of 99.94 runs, whereas Sachin has a Test average of 53.86. Bradman also has scored the most runs in a single series, scoring a mountain of runs with an aggregate of 974 runs.

Tendulkar has never batted at number three in Test cricket. However, playing at number four was his specialty. Interestingly, both fastest century and half-century in ODIs isn’t scored by Sachin. The fastest century has come in 37 balls by Afridi, while Jayasuriya has blasted a fifty in a mere 17 balls.

Tendulkar even hasn’t scored the fastest century and the fastest half-century in Tests. They are scored by Vivian Richards and Jacques Kallis respectively in 56 and 24 balls. The run machine, as Tendulkar is known, does not have the highest List A runs to his credit. This honor goes to Graham Gooch for scoring 22,211 runs.

However, the respect this iconic batsman commands can never be ignored. It is not just about runs. But his urge to play cricket and to play for his country has always been the highlights of Tendulkar’s glittering career.
