What Is Android

 

Android is a Linux-based mobile operating system. It is made by American company Google and designed primarily for touch screen mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet computers. Android Operating System has been progressing quite rapidly and most of the companies are releasing their android phone now. Android, Inc. was founded in Palo Alto, California in October 2003 by Rich Miner, Andy Rubin, Nick Sears and Chris White. The first android phone was HTC G1.

The advantages using android phones are, we can easy access to Google services like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and Google Maps. Android OS is popular for its ability to run Multiple Apps at the same time. We can easily look for information on the web, watch videos, search for directions and write emails on your phone, at the same time just as you would on your computer. Android phones are highly customisable and can be altered to suit your tastes and needs. We can check our Face book and Twitter profiles through a variety of apps and thus helps in social networking integration. In the latest versions of Android we can send links to and from our computer and vice versa. Another feature of Android is that it automatically backs up our contacts for us.

 Android is released in series of Versions. It Starts from 1.0 version .The name of  these versions are similar to the name of  food items like ice cream, jelly bean, sandwich etc. which is one of the specialty of android versions. They are

 1.0 – Android beta.

 1.5 – Android Cupcake.

 1.6 – Android Donut.

 2.0/2.1 – Eclair.

 2.2.x – Froyo.

 2.3.x – Gingerbread

There are many customers for Android devices

It is widely used by OEMS (Original Equipment Manufacturers) hardware manufactures and also the custom application components, Google, Application Development Companies (the biggest contributors to the ecosystem) , Freelance Android developers (They create their apps, and publish them on Google play store).

Android supports 2D, 3D graphics It supports MP4, 3GP, MPEG4, MIDI ,Multiple Languages, Web Browser,  Java , Additional Hardware Support, Video Calling etc.

There are some disadvantages of using Android .

It needs continous internet connection.

Application in the Android phones can indeed be obtained easily and for free, but the consequences in each of these applications, many ads will display, either the top or bottom of the application.
