The major towns are on the banks of the river called “Neyyar”. So the place got the name Neyyattinkara. The main places that attracts everyone to visit are Sree Krishna Temple (historical temple), Amaravila CSI church, Chembarathivila Sub Jail, Aruvippuram Siva Temple (pilgrim centre), Neyyar Dam, Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary and Lion Safari Park. The town is mostly residential with several school, colleges, hospitals, shopping hall and numerous park.

Famous Personalities:

The town gave births to many revolutionary leaders like Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai, Veera Raghavan, Gandian and social reformer G.Ramachandran,  Communist leader N.C. Shekhar, poet Madhusoodhanan Nair and famous musician Neyyattinkara Vasudevan.

Pilgrim Center:

Most important attraction of this place is the important pilgrim center Aruvippuram. It is only 7 km near to this town. Aruvippuram is considered as the holy land of Sree Narayana Guru, who is considered as the chief architect behind the social renaissance in Kerala. Koduthookimala, Sankaran Kuzhi, Siva Temple and Guru mandiram attracts thousands of tourists to visit this place.

Historical Temple:

The famous historical temple, Sree Krishna Temple, in the heart of the town attracts everyone. Baby Krishna is the deity of this temple. King Marthanda Varma established this temple in the year 1755. The temple has a great historical significance. Centuries old Jack fruit tree ( Ammachiplavu ) is here, Marthanda Varma hide inside this tree from enemies.  It is still being preserved in this temple. Other sub deities are Lord Ganapathi, Dharma Sastha and Nagam.  An auditorium was attached to this temple for various cultural programmes. The main offering butter or “Thrikayilvenna”, is a medicine for intestinal disorders. Neyyar River is on the side of this temple. Some of the festivals celebrated with great joy are Ashtami Rohini, Vishu, Navarathri and Mandalapooja. The main festival is on the Malayalam month Meenam which ends with “aarattu”.

Neyyar Dam:  

Neyyar Dam is another beautiful spot where thousands of people came to see the charming dam site, medicinal herbs and boat ride. The Dam was built in 1958. Neyyar Wild life Sanctuary is also near the Dam. Sanctuary includes animals such as Nilgiri Tahr, Jungle Cat, Wild Buffaloes and Slothbear. While enjoying the boat ride we can capture the jungle. There are various rare medicinal plants in this area helpful for Ayurvedic medicines. Lion Safari Park, Deer Park, Lake Garden, Watch tower, Crocodile farm and Elephant riding are other attractions.
