The curtains have finally fallen on an illustrious career of Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. It was exactly 24 years ago on November 15, 1989 that Sachin played the first international match of his life. Now 24 years later, on this very day Sachin played the last innings of his life.

Now, we can safely say that Sachin Tendulkar is static in figures as of now. In his farewell Test a score of 74 runs is certainly a great effort, especially for someone who has played cricket for a better part of his life.

The demand to bestow upon Sachin Tendulkar the Bharat Ratna had picked up pace when he became the first cricketer in the world and the history of the game to score a double century in ODIs against South Africa.

Even though there wasn’t any provision to give the Bharat Ratna to a sportsman, the clause was amended to accommodate sports personalities as well. This has paved the way for Sachin becoming the first sports to get the highest civilian award.

It must also be mentioned that Sachin will become the first sportsman in the country to get this award, though there has been a growing demand to award Major Dhyanchand with the same award. This demand has been there much before actually than the award just recently announced to Sachin Tendulkar.

The greatness of this iconic batsman is his simplicity, being humble and rooted to the ground. Such a huge amount of success didn’t bring any sort of attitude or a sense of arrogance at all. Ego had no place in this great man’s life and that’s what sets him apart from the rest.

One of the best examples of his coolness is his way of tackling the talkative Aussies. Sledging has been an integral part of the team and they are known for it very well. However, Sachin allowed his bat to do the talking and has dominated bowlers like Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.

There will be batsmen who will break his records and that will happen in the course of time. But it is impossible to get someone like Sachin Tendulkar back, because he is the Sachin Tendulkar.
