The Indian Premier League has been one of the biggest sporting events in the world. Though it is a money spinning league, there is no dearth of talent. In fact, the IPL has surbecome so popular that it has become a yearly feature and an extravaganza.

It is only in the IPL that one can see Yusuf Pathan playing against Irfan Pathan and Albie Morkel and Morne Morkel pitted against each other. It is only here that Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar teamed up to bat together for a common team, which gave them the nick name of ‘Pondulkar’.

And yes, there have been innumerable records in various disciplines. Here we discuss about the number of matches.

When Chennai Super Kings played against the Kings XI Punjab, Suresh Raina became the first player to play 100 IPL matches. He achieved this feat when he represented Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the team’s first game in the current (seventh) season of the IPL, where CSK played against KXIP in Abu Dhabi. The match was played on April 18.

There are also other players from the CSK team who have played 90 or more matches and are almost certain to join Suresh Raina in the 100-match league. The first of them is Captain Cool M S Dhoni, who had played 97 matches until then. If the next matches are taken into account, Dhoni has also reached his 100 IPL matches mark.

The 100th match for Dhoni was against the Mumbai Indians on April 25.

 Subramaniam Badrinath, another CSK player has 95 matches to his credit. However, he hasn’t represented his team in this season so far. So, he remains stuck on 95 IPL matches.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma played his 99th match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. And the next match made him another ‘centurion’ at the IPL forum. Incidentally, this was the 100th IPL match for both Dhoni and Sharma.

The captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Virat Kohli was also in the 90s league as he has played 94 IPL matches as well. Before the end of the season, he will also have completed his 100 IPL matches.
