Records Set And Broken In India Vs Australia Match

The seventh match between India and Australia sprung up many records. Most of the records were for individual batting scores though there were some for partnerships as well. Here we take a look at some records that were ser and broken in the match.

The most prominent record was a third double century in ODIs. As Rohit Sharma scored 209 runs, he entered the history books for scoring a double ton and being just the third player in the history to do so.

Before his innings, there were two other double century makers and both of them come from India. First it was Sachin Tendulkar who scored exactly 200 runs against South Africa and then it was the swashbuckling Virender Sehwag who scored 219 runs against West Indies.

As far as the number of sixes is concerned, Sharma got this one record in his name. Rohit hit 16 sixes, one more than Shane Watson. Watson had hit 15 sixes against Bangladesh when he had scored 185 not out runs in just 96 balls.

Given the flamboyance of Virender Sehwag, it would be surprising to note that he had hit only seven sixes in his innings as he scored 219 runs, which happens to be the highest individual score in an ODI match. However, Sehwag had hit a whopping 25 boundaries, probably the highest in a single innings.

Rohit Sharma and M S Dhoni added 167 runs for the fifth wicket. This happens to be a record against Australia. No pair had added those many runs for the fifth wicket batting against the Australians.

India’s total of 383 runs is their highest against Australia so far. However, it is South Africa who holds the record of scoring the most runs against Australia when they scored 438 runs in 49.5 overs a few years back. This also happens to be the highest score in ODIs so far.

Coming back to the India Australia match, there is a very interesting co-incidence. When Sachin Tendulkar scored first ever double century in cricket, it was M S Dhoni who was batting with Tendulkar. And as Rohit pulled off his double century, it was against Dhoni at the other end.
