The town of Ooty is located in the Nilgiris district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This is a beautiful hill station that has often earned the reputation of being the Queen of all Hill Stations in India. Besides tourism this is also a place that’s renowned for its tea and coffee plantations that have considerably added to the beauty and natural reserves of the region. It is also a place that’s known for some of the best schools in the country.

The location of Ooty is itself one of its chief attractions. It is situated within the Nilgiri Hills that provides the beautiful lush greenery and the trees of the hillsides. There are picturesque landscapes of the valleys that augment the scenic glamour of the place and make it heavenly when it comes to a relaxed holiday feel for tourists. You will have the pleasure of gazing out in the vast expanse of the greenery along with the natural waterfalls.

There is a Rose Garden that you can visit while at Ooty. This is the largest collection of roses that you can ever come across. There are more than 17,000 varieties of rose flowers that you will see here.

You can also visit the Ooty Botanical Garden that is here. This was built in the year 1847 and is presently under government maintenance. There is plenty to see in the variety of trees and plants that are grown here amidst green expanses of well kept lawns and fields. There is also an annual flower show held here of some of the exotic varieties of flowers grown here.

Another popular attraction of Ooty is the Lake that is built here. It is coupled with the presence of an amusement park for children and a beautiful wooded region of eucalyptus trees. There is a facility for boating on the lake that can be an exciting experience for tourists. It also allows plenty of relaxing in the quiet waters of the lake.

You will have a pleasant experience of being a witness to the Nilgiri Mountain Railways. This is declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is truly magnificent. The railways here are steam locomotives and are unique. You can also see India’s very own wax museum here at Ooty. There are lifelike images of wax of eminent personalities of the country. There is also a tribal museum that showcases rare artifacts and exhibits of tribal life in the region.

You will be able to proceed on several excursions in the neighboring regions of Ooty as well. There are destinations like the Pykara falls, Doddabetta Peak in the Nilgiris, Ketty valley and Pine forest among many others. You will see many lakes that are here namely emerald lake, avalanche lake, Porthimund lake and the upper Bhavani lake.
