If on one hand Sachin Tendulkar hasn’t been a part of any major controversies like match fixing or spot fixing, controversies have always followed him both on and off the field, be it getting out to Glenn McGrath ‘shoulder before wicket’ or being awarded the Bharat Ratna award – the highest civilian award in India.

There are many people who still think that he does not deserve the award, while many others still support this view. Tendulkar now has become a former India cricketer. But still there is no sign of him remaining away from the “yes” and the “no” regarding the awards he should get for what he did on the cricket field.

The question now arises about the Bharat Ratna. Honestly enough people like Dhyan Chand and Sachin Tendulkar are above such any awards and rewards. Had Dhyan Chand been already conferred with the Bharat Ratna, people may not have come so strongly comparing these two legends and at times even refusing to honor Sachin with it.

But we should not forget that both are legends and are great in their own ways. Drawing parallels or comparing them is simply wrong. Times have changed and so have the ways of comparison.  The end of the controversies about the Bharat Ratna should be brought out in such a way that it will keep the dignity of the award as well as those who receive it.

One of the best possible solutions, at present, is to declare the Bharat Ratna to Major Dhyan Chand as well. And on the next Republic Day, he can be awarded the highest civilian award in India posthumously. After all, only four people have got the award when they were still living.

There are even more candidates for the Bharat Ratna award like the name of former India Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was always creeping up. He is one such leader who has remained unblemished even in a field like politics and that too in India.

It now remains to be seen what decision the Government of India takes and how the entire controversy of the award is put to rest. We should expect a decision soon.
