S. S. Stanley Biography

S. S. Stanley is a popular film director associated with Tamil cinema, known for directing Srikanth movies. Quite active in the industry since early 2000s he has also written a few film scripts. He has been an assistant director for popular directors for twelve years, before he made his first film - April Maadhathil in 2002 which was a commercial hit. Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan (2004), Mercury Pookkal (2006) and Kizhakku Kadalkarai Salai (2006) are his other releases. Since his last work as a director in 2006, he has acted a few character roles onscreen including one cameo role of himself for the movie - Ninaithathu Yaaro. He made his acting debut in the year 2007 with Gnana Rajasekaran’s Periyar.

S. S. Stanley originally belongs to Munnar, Kerala. He has two siblings – one brother and one sister. He worked under different directors for long 12 years and made his debut as an independent filmmaker with the commercial hit - April Maadhathil (2002) starring Srikanth and Sneha. However his second release - Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan with Dhanush in the lead met with a critical and commercial failure.  But the movie managed to get back the expenses, for producers and distributors. In director’s words, the film idea was conveyed in a different meaning to the audience. While the director concentrated on romance, viewers expected it to be an action film, ending up in disappointment.

After a stalled project with Ravi Krishna, he made his third film - Mercury Pookkal (2006) starring Srikanth once again. He was paired with Meera Jasmin for the movie. With his third flop in a series, Kizhakku Kadalkarai Salai (2006) Stanley took a sabbatical. After that he made a fresh start as an actor. He played C. N. Annadurai in the biographical film Periyar (2007), his second movie.
