Rajshekhar Mansur Biography 
Rajshekhar Mansur is a Hindustani vocalist who performs in Jaipur-Atrauli school of Hindustani music. He is the son of famous vocalist and singer of the khyal style in the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana, Mallikarjun Mansur, who lived in the 20th century. Mansur took musical lessons from his father, and later translated the autobiography work of his father Nanna Rasayatre originally written in Kannada to English. The book was published as My Journey in Music. He has been accompanying his father for musical concerts from the age of 20. He is a retired English professor from Karnataka University, Dharwad too.
Rajshekhar Mansur was born on 16 December 1942 into a prominent family of musicians of Dharwad, Karnataka origin. He was born as the son of the legendary vocalist Mallikarjun Mansur and Gangamma. He has seven siblings and all are sisters. He was initiated to the world of music by his father, and later he chose father’s musical path too, and earned a name of his own. At the age of 18 he won the gold medal in the Sangeet Visharad exam. He also won first prize in the AIR Youth Music Competition. In academics, he took English as the main subject and completed Master’s in English from India as well as M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Wales on a British Council Scholarship.
Initially he accompanied his father for music concerts during his youth days. His father wanted to take him a regular job instead of choosing music as full-time profession, and hence he completed advanced studies in English as well. He also taught English at Karnataka University, Dharwad, and retired as professor after 35 years of experience in this field. He received the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2012.
