Muhammed Anas Biography

Muhammed Anas is an Indian athlete and sportsman from Kollam, Kerala. He specialises in the 400 metres event. He came to limelight after he broke the national record in 400 metres at the Polish Athletics Championship in Poland in June 2016, clocking 45.40 seconds. Thus he got qualified for Olympics, thus becoming only the third Indian to qualify for the event after Milkha Singh in 1956 and 1960) and K. M. Binu in 2004. He won silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games, in the Men's 400 metres finals with a time of 45.69 sec.

Muhammed Anas hails from Nilamel village of Kollam district, Kerala. He was born on 17 September 1994. Born in a remote village of Kollam, his parents encouraged him a lot in the field of sports. During his college days at NSS College, he polished his talents. The ground in which he along with his friend Ansar B practised those days actually was a private property, which belongs to his college principal. Ansar was one of the first men from Nilamel to take up athletics. The ground is far from perfect, situated on top of a hillock and its unevenness was enough to slow down anyone’s determination. But the positive fact was that if anyone manages to establish suitable timing in this irregular field, he can do better in normal track, and that’s what Anas showed to others.

He came to spotlight for the first time after participating in 2016 Polish Athletics Championships. Same year he was a team member of 4 × 400 metres relay at Bangalore and qualified for the Olympics. With his outstanding and shining performance in 2018 Asian games, he received praises from all corners.
