Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu Biography

Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu was a senior leader and politician from Andhra Pradesh, associated with Telugu Desam Party. A prominent leader of the party, he father served as MLA, MP and also a cabinet minister in UDF ministry in the second half of 1990s. His son, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu is the second youngest Member of Parliament who got elected in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He is also the youngest National General Secretary of Telugu Desam Party, who follows his father’s legacy and joined active politics in 2012 following Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu’s death comparatively at a young age. Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu died of heart attack following an accident in 2012, aged only 55. He was returning from a marriage ceremony at Visakhapatnam when this mishap happened and took away his life.

 

Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu was born on February 23, 1957 in Nimmada of Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. He was born in a remote village, but he excelled in studies. He completed his LLB degree with first division from the Andhra University in Visakhapatnam before he joined Telugu Desam Party when it was launched in 1982. Since then he remained an active member of the party till his death in 2012. He is also known as Yeranna among TDP circles.

 

He was elected to state assembly for the first time in 1983 when he was only 25, claiming one of the youngest MLAs of the state then. He got re-elected in 1985, and when he was denied a party ticket in 1989 elections, he contested as an independent candidate and won the elections. However he returned to the party. He became the MLA of the state for the fourth consecutive term in 1994, and his support for Chandrababu Naidu is well-known. In 1996 he successfully contested Lok Sabha elections, and retained the seat in 1998, 1999 and 2004 elections, and also survived an assassination attempt in 2004 just before the elections. He lost 2009 elections.
