K. P. Ramanunni Biography

K. P. Ramanunni is a noted writer of Malayalam literature associated with novels and short stories. He has also written screenplays for a few Malayalam movies. His first novel Sufi Paranja Katha won Kerala Sahitya Akademi award in 1995. This highly acclaimed novel which states the relationship with a marriage couple belonging to two entirely different communities and religion was later made to a feature film by Priyanandanan. Sharbani Mukherjee played the high class Hindu girl while Prakash Bare played the role of a Muslim trader with whom she elopes with. Ramanunni scripted the movie as well and wrote its dialogues too. Jeevithathinte Pusthakam (2011) is his last published book, which won Vayalar Award for the year. He is also a recipient of Edasseri Award.

 

He was born in 1955 to Damodharan Nair and Janaki Amma in Ponnani, Malappuram. His schooling was done at Ponnani. He took degree in English literature from Malabar Christian College. He worked as assistant Manager in SBI. But to concentrate on to his literal career he took voluntary retirement from service. His published works include - Charama Vaarshikam, Vidhathavinte Chiri, Vendapettavante Kurish,Purusha Vilapam, Jathi Chodikkuka and K.P. Ramanunniyude Therenjedutha Kathakal, apart from his celebrated works - Jeevithathinte Pusthakam and Sufi Paranja Katha. He has also scripted one movie in his literal career - Sufi Paranja Katha. The movie was selected for International competition section of International Film Festival and won 4 state awards.

 

His novel - Jeevithathinte Pusthakam was selected for the 35th Vayalar Rama Varma literary award instituted by Vayalar Rama Varma Memorial Trust. The novel had a transparency of a personal diary, written in the backdrop of religious amity and secularism. He currently serves as the Administrator of Thunjan Memorial Trust, Tirur.
